Supported Education

Education plays a significant role in ones self-esteem.  Personal satisfaction comes from obtaining education goals. More and more employers are requiring minimum levels of education or vocational certificates.  Adventure House is located in a rural North Carolina town where the textile industry has been the dominant means of employment. This industry is becoming non-existent. Education has become a necessity in order to obtain employment. Adventure House is committed to providing opportunities for members to complete and further their education.

The Supported Education Program at Adventure House assists members in a variety of ways. Members and staff provide assistance in overcoming obstacles and guidance in achieving educational goals. Often times, members have not completed their education because of the reoccurring symptoms of their illness.  Adventure House offers the HiSET GED on line program, which members can work toward completing their GED.  We also collaborate with the Community College with assisting members with taking placement test to determine what program and curriculum is best for them.  We have had many members to complete their high school diploma. When this is accomplished, many feel ready to go on to the community college and begin working on degree programs or college transfer programs. Staff and members are available to help complete financial aid forms and college admission applications. We make it possible for everyone who has the desire to learn to return to or advance their studies, regardless of t  heir previous education, illness or particular disability.
